Hello. I'm Donak. I casually post about the work and hobbies I've been involved with on this site. I'd be delighted if you could stay a while and browse at your leisure, if time permits.
I've finally had some free time, so I'm trying to do all the things I couldn't do until now. I'm starting little by little, but somehow I'm still really, really busy. Although I am fumbling around while studying various subjects on my own, everything is quite challenging and not easy. I am quite busy every day like this.
I have been involved in injection molding of thermoplastics for a long time. In addition, I also studied mold tooling, materials, design, and CAE, among other topics.
Even so, I feel that there are few major technological innovations in injection molding. I think one of the reasons for this is that it is difficult to get the opportunity to delve deeply into each related technology as a whole. I wonder if the realization is far away unless the cooperation of each company becomes stronger. The molder receives part and tooling data, resin supplier provides the material data, the molding machine analyzes them through the net, and the machine creates the optimal conditions with AI. At least, if such a system cannot be established first, I think that it will not be possible to move forward.
At university, I researched topics such as "Photo-induced graft polymerization of methyl methacrylate onto carboxymethyl cellulose", but after graduation I got a job at a thermosetting resin materials manufacturer. And when I was assigned to a company that was doing molding processing, I became involved in manufacturing.
At that company, I was able to learn the molding process of thermosetting and thermoplastic resins because they were doing both molding. In thermosetting resin processing, I was able to gain a wide range of experience because it was not only injection but also compression and transfer molding. In addition, they were also selling molding tools. As the technical activities, I met with mold manufacturer to decide the specifications, then after the tool was completed, I repeatedly did molding trials by myself and hand them over to customer until I can determine that they can withstand the mass production. Through these jobs, I learned many things such as how to make molds, design methods, how to select steel materials, molding know-how, and directions for correcting molds for mass production.
In addition, I learned about part design, gained experience in tooling, and was entrusted with the production management of mass production, which further fueled my interest in manufacturing (Monozukuri). However, at that time, although I had a lot of experience with molds and molding, there was a lot I didn't know about the most important materials. That was a big concern.
At that time, I had the opportunity to change jobs at a thermoplastic resin material manufacturer. While working in the customer service division for injection molding, I was also involved in the development of new injection molding processes. Furthermore, I practiced optimizing a part design while conducting CAE analysis and CAD design work. After evaluating the final customer product, I proposed the optimal usage of resin and part design.
Based on these experiences, I have started this website with the feeling that I would like to disclose my manufacturing (Monozukuri) know-how to juniors and want them to make even better products. I'm still figuring this out, so if you have any advice, please let me know via email.
